Gain visibility and control over your customers' interactions with your third parties

Silver Tail Forensics SaaS

The Problem

Many of our customers say that their biggest pain point is outside their own systems – at the third party websites where end users interact, but the traffic is only seen by the third party’s web servers. Third party applications include bill pay, cleared check viewing, ACH transfers, social network games, credit card processing and many more.

This architecture creates a blind spot for the e-commerce and financial services companies that use third party applications: they can’t see the traffic occurring on these sites for days. Yet they are liable for any fraud or malicious activity that occurs through these sites.

Visibility

Magnifying Glass

A key component of minimizing the fraud that occurs on third party web servers is to understand the traffic that these web servers see. Silver Tail Systems’ Junction Master solution provides visibility into traffic occurring on third party websites. The traffic going to these web servers is redirected through the financial service’s or e-commerce company’s own web servers before being forwarded to the third party. With the help of this technology, companies can see all of the actions occurring through their third party provider.

Control

Once your company understands the fraud occurring against your customers within the third party application, the next step is diverting the bad behavior so that it no longer has a negative impact on your company or your customers.

Silver Tail Systems’ Mitigation product with Junction Master can divert fraudulent sessions in real-time even if the sessions are through third parties.

Simple integration into existing processes

Installation

Junction Master is simple to install, requiring no development work or html changes. Junction Master sits on your network infrastructure in one of several places. An example installation is where the Junction Master sits between your load balancer and your web server. In this case the Junction Master receives traffic from the load balancer and passes it to the web server. When the web server sends http traffic back to the load balancer, the Junction Master analyzes that traffic and makes the appropriate changes to third party URLs to make sure they will be redirected through your web servers.

A complete solution

In addition, Silver Tail Systems’ Forensics solution integrates the third party traffic with the traffic on the financial service’s or e-commerce company’s website such that the entire session is aggregated, analyzed, used to detect anomalous sessions, and can be seen by analysts during the investigations of suspicious sessions.

The combination of Junction Master with Forensics gives enterprises using third parties the power to analyze entire web sessions for all users to detect fraudulent sessions. This improves the fraud detection on the website itself as well as detecting fraud occurring on the third party website.

Silver Tail System’s Mitigation solution gives companies the ability to change the page flow of the website to divert only the criminals even when the traffic is through third parties. This diversion occurs through simple business rules managed by fraud analysts or product management. These business rules divert criminal sessions without requiring development to the website.

Integration with Other Tools

All of Silver Tail Systems’ products are architected to easily integrate into other tools. Forensics accepts data from customers’ internal systems and sends alerts to case management tools. Mitigation uses data from external systems to improve rule accuracy and sends scores and notification to authentication systems and other customer tools. Junction Master does not change this behavior in either of these solutions.

Word on the Street

M86 reported an attack in the UK where around £700,000 was raided from banks and more than 100,000 computers were infected via a botnet by an organised network of cyber criminals. That attack, shows that banks need to look at both authentication information and at the behavior of user sessions to detect these types of attacks. It is critical for banks and other online organizations to understand the behavior of their web sessions to detect these sophisticated types of threats.
